Tommy Sy: Hi Amirah, how are you doing?
Amirah Adara: Very good, thank you. What about you?

Tommy Sy: I’m a little exhausted because I just finished shooting a scene, and I know that you are about to do one as well, so we have to be quite quick today.
Amirah Adara: Busy days, right?

Tommy Sy: So, let’s talk about you a little bit. When and how did you start in this industry? How did you end up here?
Amirah Adara: Yeah, I started when I was 18, which was a long time ago. Basically, I was at a party, like usual 18-year-olds, and a girl came to me asking if I wanted to do modeling. I said, “Yeah, why not?” So, we partied together and had fun. The next day, they called me to meet with them. It was an agent and this girl, and they said, “Okay, this is porn.” I was like, “Oh, okay, that’s not for me.” But we became friends. So, a week later, I thought, “You know what? I want to try. I can say no if I don’t like it later.” My first scene was for Woodman, and I started with a DP scene.

Tommy Sy: That’s deep water.
Amirah Adara: Exactly. I did it, and I was like, “Fuck, I love this.” So, I stayed.

Tommy Sy: I remember years ago when you started in this business, we were heading to a location, you and I, sitting in a car. We just started to talk about different things, and I asked you why you were doing this. I really loved your answer because I don’t really want to go into your family and stuff, but I know you never needed that kind of background—like money or guys—because you were okay, no problems. You told me the reason why you were doing this was to show you could stand on your own two feet, without help from parents or anyone. That was really good to hear.
Amirah Adara: Yes, and since then, I’m still doing that. I think I’m doing pretty well, and I still love it. It’s like a family to me, this business.

Tommy Sy: So you had no pressure? No financial pressure?
Amirah Adara: No, none.

Tommy Sy: That’s good. That’s the best way to do this.
Amirah Adara: I like sex. I started when I was 18, and I lost my virginity when I was 17, so I didn’t have too much time to discover my sexuality. This was really good for finding out what I like, what I don’t like, what I enjoy—it was a great journey.

Tommy Sy: And since then, you’ve won a couple of awards, you went to the States back and forth, and you’ve also become a director.
Amirah Adara: Yes, also.

Tommy Sy: Okay. You stopped doing boy-girl scenes—not because you became a director, but I thought maybe because you got married, right? Was that one of the reasons why you stopped doing boy-girl scenes? Because you got into a relationship?
Amirah Adara: Yes and no. I always thought when I was younger, what would I want in my personal life—when I would have a husband, kids, whatever. I thought that when I’d have a husband and kids, I’d do something more “normal.” But once I got into porn, I was like, “Maybe I’m never going to have that because I enjoy this too much.” Also, my husband is from the business, so I thought about it a lot. But to be honest, I mostly stopped because I was shooting 26 or 27 days a month.

Tommy Sy: Wow, okay.
Amirah Adara: So I was basically never home, and I couldn’t spend enough time with my husband. Also, he was already directing and producing when we got together, so I joined him in that. We were shooting for Nobuy films, and I loved them. I started to enjoy that too, so I had to decide. I still shoot girl-girl and other things, but I stopped boy-girl so I could have more time to produce and to be with my husband.

Tommy Sy: That’s cool. Your choice, in terms of relationships—did you have any partners from outside of the business, or only from within?
Amirah Adara: To be honest, my husband is my first real boyfriend.

Tommy Sy: What about fake ones?
Amirah Adara: No, no. I tried, but I never fell in love before. Sometimes I had “fuck buddies,” but they were usually only from the business because it was easier, and they have regular tests, so it was safer. But love-wise, he was the first, and now he’s my husband.

Tommy Sy: You look lovely together.
Amirah Adara: Thank you so much.

Tommy Sy: So now that you’re directing and sometimes still acting, how do you see things from the other side? When performers are only performing, they see things one way. But once you step into the director’s shoes, you start to see models differently.
Amirah Adara: For me, it’s been a really good experience. As a model, I understand the director’s work more, so I can help more. It feels like a little team—everyone helps each other. From the director’s side, I also understand the model’s perspective, which makes everything easier. I also tried assistant work for a few companies because I like being on set, and it helped me understand all sides.

Tommy Sy: Is there anything you would do differently now that you see both sides? Like, when you were just a model, did you not understand certain things?
Amirah Adara: Yes, definitely. For example, I understand now why there are waiting times on set—changing lights, checking things. I also make sure to ask how long I have if I want to smoke or eat because I don’t want people waiting for me.

Tommy Sy: Do you think the industry has changed in the last 13 years?
Amirah Adara: Yes, a lot has changed. For example, social media—Instagram, TikTok, and OnlyFans. When I started, there was only Facebook, which we didn’t use much as porn models. Then Twitter came, and it was a big change for me. It was hard to learn how to use it properly. Now, there are so many platforms, and models are more connected with fans. Almost all models do OnlyFans, and they see a bit of the other side of the business by producing their own content.

Tommy Sy: Do you think having a platform like OnlyFans, where models make money and get fans, changes the way they approach traditional adult productions?
Amirah Adara: Yes, it has changed a lot. If you find a balance between OnlyFans and professional productions, you can use productions to boost your social media and OnlyFans. Many models think it’s easier to just do OnlyFans and stop doing productions, but if you’re clever, you can make more money by combining both.

Tommy Sy: Absolutely. So, during your career, do you have any funny stories that come to mind—anything that makes you say, “Oh, that was funny”?
Amirah Adara: Oh my god. Every time I get this question, I can never think of one on the spot. But for example, one time, the agency sent me to travel with a girl. I think we went to Mallorca, and they called me asking if I could go two days earlier because they were worried this girl would get lost. She didn’t speak any other language, and I had to help her get to the airport and the gate. It was really funny—she was so cute, and we laughed a lot. Another time, I was shooting a scene with a couple. We had contact lenses, so we couldn’t see properly. I was doing the girl-girl part, and they were doing boy-girl next to me. At one point, I had to hold the girl’s head so he could come on her face, but because we couldn’t see, he ended up coming on my face by accident. We all just started laughing so hard, and the producer was apologizing, saying he didn’t mean for that to happen. I asked if they recorded it, but they didn’t.

Tommy Sy: But the good thing is, you didn’t take it as an offense—it was just an accident. Some people might be offended, like, “Oh no, coming on my face,” but who cares, right?
Amirah Adara: Exactly, it’s happened before. No big deal.

Tommy Sy: I like your attitude. Thank you. Well, Amirah, I know you have to run, and today seems to be quite busy—everyone has flights and scenes to catch. But I hope to have you back in the future to spend more time with us. Just seeing your smile makes everything beautiful.
Amirah Adara:
Thank you so much. It was a pleasure to be here, and I’d definitely come back anytime you ask.

Tommy Sy: Thank you, Amirah.
Amirah Adara:
Thank you.
