Shalina Devine: Well, it’s a question I’ve answered many times before, but I’m always happy to share. One night, I was sitting in my living room watching a late-night porn channel because there was nothing else on. I saw this really cheap, poorly made movie and thought to myself, “I could do better than that any day of the week!” 😂 That was the trigger for me to get into this industry.

Soon after, I realized that everything isn’t as easy as it might appear to a viewer. There’s a lot of hard work behind a 15-minute scene. I guess I always wanted to be in the spotlight, and yes, this career can be very challenging and full of frustrations, but it’s also full of rewards, satisfactions, and happy moments. I suppose it’s like any other job in the world.

Model Memoir: How did you choose your stage name? Is there any story behind it?
Shalina Devine: I came across the name Shalina in a very old movie and fell in love with it instantly. Later, when I learned that it has a Hindi meaning of “gentle” or “polite,” I felt it represented me well, so I decided to use it.

Model Memoir: What was the main reason you chose to do porn?
Shalina Devine: I chose to do porn primarily because I LOVE sex… quite a lot! 😉 I also consider myself an “out of the box” person, and I’m enjoying every minute of it. One of the main reasons is that I’m my own boss and can organize my life accordingly. I can choose when, where, and how to do things, which is awesome from my point of view. I can travel, see the world, meet new people, experience different cultures and ways of living. It’s quite a nice journey.

Model Memoir: Great, and did you consider any other careers before?
Shalina Devine: Yes, I worked in a furniture factory for a while, and I was also a waitress.

Model Memoir: What was your first scene like, and how did you feel going into it?
Shalina Devine: My first scene was actually a solo scene where I had to pose a lot, use toys, and maintain eye contact with the camera as if I was performing directly for someone. I did it so naturally that everyone on set was very impressed. They even asked me how long I had been performing, and when I told them it was my first time, they didn’t believe me! 😄 So I guess I’m a natural. What else can I say?

Model Memoir: That’s fascinating! And how did you prepare, and what advice would you give to others?
Shalina Devine: There’s always preparation time before any scene, and it’s different every time. It depends on how challenging the scene is, how complex, how much dialogue is in the script, and also how to adapt your body language to the acting and facial expressions according to what you’re saying. It’s not just a simple act of having sex. The key word in “porn actress” is actually “actress,” not “porn.” You must have at least basic acting skills as the foundation of your preparation for this job. These tricks are easily found on the internet with a simple Google search.

As for advice, first of all, be well-rested. Get a good night’s sleep before, and most importantly, BE PRESENT on the filming set. Be there with all your mind and body. You’re there to act and then to have sex. You have to be able to convince your audience about your character in the movie, then put that character into a sex scene.

Model Memoir: One thing that you like the most about porn and one that you don’t like?
Shalina Devine: What I like most is the chance to be different characters, to play them, to glow in front of cameras. I really enjoy what I’m doing. 🌟 What I don’t like are the stereotypes, especially old ones with lack of imagination, poor scenarios, and lines. When I come across this kind of thing, I try to step up, talk with the directors and the crew, offering them suggestions. Sometimes it works – they’re open to input if you can handle it with a bit of diplomacy.

Model Memoir: What’s your favorite position to perform?
Shalina Devine: Really, that’s not a real question. 😅 Of course, during my career, I’ve encountered a few challenging situations regarding this matter (like one time I was in a script having sex in different positions in a gym on the sports machines – that was a real challenge!). But really, it’s not about having a favorite position.

Model Memoir: Do you prefer lesbian scenes or boy/girl scenes?
Shalina Devine: That’s also not really a real question for me, because it’s a known fact that I’m a declared bisexual person. So, I really can’t choose between those two situations. But if I must give an answer, it would be something like “I consider a PERFECT scene a mixture between lesbian and a good fuck.” I’ve always said that even in private life, a perfect moment is like two girls to start and a good guy to finish. 😏

Model Memoir: What’s the kinkiest request you’ve received from a director or scene partner? If there was any, how did you handle it?
Shalina Devine: Well, as I mentioned before, I like to consider myself as a person who’s living “out of the box,” so kinky isn’t something that appears very often. Besides, usually, you get a script with a description and details about what’s to be filmed BEFORE the actual filming process, and you ALWAYS have the 100% right to say NO to something if you consider it doesn’t fit you, no matter the reason. So situations like that, to be well understood, are not very common. For me personally, it hasn’t happened, and if one day something like that appears and I’m not comfortable doing it, I will 100% say NO.

Model Memoir: Do you have a favorite fetish or kink that you enjoy exploring on camera?
Shalina Devine: Yes, I can say that I’m attracted to foot fetish actions, and I enjoy every moment when I’m in the position to act in these kinds of scenes. It’s like I’m allowed to explore something else and share with others that there are so many other body parts ready to be used and that those parts can offer new and wonderful sensations. 👣

Model Memoir: I get it… And how does exploring these kinks on camera compare to your personal life?
Shalina Devine: To be honest, I don’t see any differences between exploring this in front of a camera or in private life. Maybe that’s just me, because I’m able to commit all my senses to the moment I’m doing it. I know it might sound like bragging, but I’m able to shut down everything in the moment of acting and getting in… being there, no matter if someone’s there filming or if it’s just private sex.

Model Memoir: What’s the most adventurous place you’ve filmed a scene?
Shalina Devine: It was in a truck made of glass, so nobody from outside was able to see what was happening inside, but from inside, you could see out normally, like through regular glass. That was an experience I will never forget. It was thrilling to have sex while watching all those people around you walking, talking, and passing by. WOW, it was 100% senses to the max! 🔥

Model Memoir: Wow, and how did the location add to the excitement and challenge of the shoot?
Shalina Devine: It’s always about the location – of course, that’s a major factor in the excitement. I’m a woman, and it’s a known fact that the view excites us all the time. Do you really believe that a man would rent a cottage in the middle of nowhere in the wild, full of snow and ice, a place where he must chop wood to make fire to warm up JUST BECAUSE HE’S HORNY and wants some sex?? Really?? No, hell NO! He’s doing that because he knows that the view will get him there with the speed of light if he knows how to play his “cards.”
We are impressed by the surroundings, that’s a well-known fact, and of course, it’s a major factor that can influence a female performing a sex act. It’s something different having sex in a meadow with flowers all over the place compared to a beach with white sand, beautiful blue waves, and palm trees. It’s different… different vibes.

Model Memoir: Is there something that you refuse to do in a scene?
Shalina Devine: There are many things that I refuse to perform in a scene, and basically, they are things that I know very well don’t fit me. There are practices in sex that I’m not going into – no judgments, but they’re not on my list to do or even explore. I embraced this career and job just because I was, and I am, my OWN BOSS. So, I can choose all the time and at every step what I’m doing and if I’m going to do it.

Model Memoir: How do you set your boundaries, and have they changed over time?
Shalina Devine: My boundaries are very clear, and it’s simple to explain: Do I LIKE IT? I’M DOING IT. NO? Do I have doubts about it? NO, 100%. It’s as simple as that. You see? All this liberty of choosing is a privilege that comes as long as you understand it well and you don’t start making compromises. I know that a lot of people will say that it’s very rare in this life to have such freedom of choice and to make your own decisions without having a boss to order you around, etc. It almost sounds too good to be true, but it is real.
As long as you know HOW TO HANDLE THIS FREEDOM OF CHOICE, it can be fantastic. It’s also a hard way to live, having no one to blame for your own mistakes, that’s true, but mistakes are also chances offered to learn from them. It’s just my point of view.

Model Memoir: How do you handle the physical demands of long shooting days?
Shalina Devine: I try not to complain, that’s the first step. And if it’s hard, I think about taking more fitness hours in my daily schedule. Really, I’m living as healthy a life as possible. I’m not a saint, nor am I posing as one, but I think that the key is NOT TO EXAGGERATE in anything. Shalina Devine: I practice fitness every day using multiple phone apps because I don’t really have enough time to go to a gym. I’ve learned that exercising with your own body weight is 100% more effective than lifting weights in a gym. 💪

Model Memoir: What’s your favorite part about interacting with your fans?
Shalina Devine: Seeing that someone really appreciates my work and is excited to meet me and get to know me – that’s the most beautiful part of interacting with my fans. 🥰 It’s why I love connecting with them on platforms like OnlyFans. Shalina Devine: From the beginning, I was very determined to keep my private life separate from my public one. This is an area where gossip is very dangerous and powerful 24/7, 365 days a year. So keeping my private life apart was really a challenge, but I managed to keep these two sides separate. I simply didn’t answer any questions referring to my private area of life. Sometimes it was rude doing this, but the price was a quite peaceful private life.

Model Memoir: Have you ever faced any stigma or judgment because of your career? How did you handle it?
Shalina Devine: That’s the oldest question in the “book,” and the answer is OF COURSE, YES. The point is to start this career first with a very good state of mind and to be 100% sure of what you’re about to do and to NOT CARE about every comment that will follow. It’s not about if they will appear (comments, judgments, etc.) – they will, that’s 100% sure. But it’s all about being in a comfortable place with yourself and with what you’re doing. Nobody will ever be 100% satisfied with your life. There will always be someone who’s going to tell you that you’re wasting your life being a musician instead of a mathematics wizard. 🤷‍♀️

Model Memoir: What’s the most rewarding part of your job?
Shalina Devine: The rewarding part is basically every day of my life. I really enjoy what I’m doing, what I’ve already achieved, and I’m very excited about every surprise that’s about to appear because I’m sure they will.

Model Memoir: Can you share a specific moment that made you feel particularly proud?
Shalina Devine: All the moments when someone recognizes me and asks for a second of my attention make me proud. That’s one of my dearest rewards for my work.

Model Memoir: That’s lovely. How do you handle criticism, whether from within the industry or from the public?
Shalina Devine: Criticism is a perfect way to learn. We’re in a business of being displayed for others to see us. That’s the main stream of our job, and any opinion about the way we are seen by others should be a major factor in educating ourselves to become better and better. So criticism is a point of balance. We have to learn to be better. Of course, I’m not talking about those criticisms made just because someone thinks they are more interesting by being a “smart ass.” I’m talking about the real ones made by people with experience in this business and years of practice.

Model Memoir: That’s a mature way to look at it. On a lighter note, what are your hobbies outside of work?
Shalina Devine: Well, I’m an active person, so I like to ski, take trips outdoors, scuba dive, as well as sightseeing. Basically, everything that involves a little effort and helps me clear my mind and recharge my inner core.

Model Memoir: What’s your biggest achievement since you started as a pornstar?
Shalina Devine: Well, I was nominated as best female performer of the year for two of the most prestigious award galas here in Europe and also across the ocean in the US. Yes, I can say that was a wonderful feeling being so appreciated and seeing that all my efforts have paid off with this achievement. All I can say is that the feeling is a charger, and yes, the entire journey continues to be challenging. 🏆

Model Memoir: That’s incredible, congratulations! Last question – how do you keep your performances exciting and prevent them from feeling routine?
Shalina Devine: Every single scene has lots of different elements from the others. No two scenes are the same due to the crew, actors, and script. Moreover, everyone welcomes suggestions for uniqueness. So basically, there’s no chance to become bored or get into a dry routine.
Scenarios have key lines to follow. However, actors and conditions like the weather can influence adaptations. So there is enough “space” to work on the story of that scene and arrange it accordingly. If you make suggestions for improvement, everyone will appreciate your commitment and direct involvement in the project.
